Change has always been part of recruitment. Markets move, expectations shift, and the way people build careers continues to evolve. What feels different now is the speed. Systems are moving faster than ever, technology is advancing daily, and AI is no longer something on the horizon, it is embedded in how work gets done.
As a former recruitment consultant for many years, now sitting in the Practice Manager role, I see both sides of this every day. I know what it feels like to be managing roles, relationships, and competing priorities while still trying to deliver a great experience. I also now sit closer to the systems and decisions that shape how that work gets done. That perspective has been invaluable. It keeps me focused on one simple question, does this actually make life easier for our consultants? Because if it does not improve their day, it will never improve the experience for our talent or our clients.
AI is not new. What is new is how accessible and powerful it has become. Used well, it removes friction. Used poorly, it creates distance. The responsibility we carry is to ensure it does the former, every single time.
Change starts inside the team
Before our talent or clients ever experience our processes, change is first felt internally. New systems, new tools, new workflows, all of these land with our people first. That matters.
Driving change is not about imposing technology for technology’s sake. It is about bringing the team on the journey, explaining the why, listening to concerns, and adjusting as we go. The most effective systems are the ones that feel intuitive, supportive, and ultimately empowering for the people using them every day.
And if I am honest, I have not always got it right.
Over the seven years I have been at C3Talent, I know there have been moments where I have rolled things out too quickly or backed an approach that simply was not the right fit. Those experiences have shaped how I think about change today. My biggest takeaway this year is simple. Meaningful change only sticks when your people are part of it. When they understand it, contribute to it, and feel the benefit of it in their day-to-day work.
Investing deeply, so our people can do their best work
Over the past few years, we have experienced significant growth in our technology stack, particularly in how we use AI across the business. From our ATS, to social platforms, AI-powered note takers, project management tools, AI-led data enrichment tools and payroll systems, we have invested heavily in getting this right.
We have also expanded how we use video, bringing our roles, our team, our clients, and our talent to life in a way that feels authentic and human, not scripted or transactional.
What matters most is that all this works seamlessly together. When systems talk to each other properly, our consultants are not jumping between platforms or duplicating effort. The technology fades into the background, doing what it should, so our people can focus on what they do best, building relationships, advising with confidence, and delivering outcomes that genuinely make a difference.
Freeing time, not replacing trust
At its best, AI takes the noise out of the process. It reduces repetitive administration, streamlines data handling, and improves accuracy behind the scenes. That matters, because when our team genuinely get time back in their day, it becomes a game changer.
More time for meaningful conversations with talent.
More time to truly understand a client’s business, culture, and leadership challenges.
More time to give feedback properly, not rushed or templated.
Recruitment has always been about trust. No algorithm replaces the insight gained from a genuine conversation, or the instinct built through years of relationship-led work. AI simply gives us the space to focus on those things more deeply.
Transparency matters more than ever
One thing technology cannot fix on its own is expectation. Clear communication, honest timelines, and transparency around decisions still sit firmly with people.
Whether you are talent navigating a career move, or a client making a critical hiring decision, knowing where you stand matters. Telling someone what is happening, why a decision has been made, or when something has changed remains a non-negotiable for us, regardless of how advanced our systems become.
The experience on the receiving end
Talent and clients feel the impact of internal change whether we intend it or not. Faster turnaround times, clearer communication, and more consistent processes are tangible outcomes when systems work well. So is the confidence that they are dealing with a team that is present, prepared, and genuinely engaged.
What they should never feel is automation at the expense of care. Talent are not data points. Clients are not workflows. Every interaction carries weight, especially at moments of career transition or significant business change.
Our commitment is simple, technology should enhance the experience, not dilute it.
Change is iterative, not perfect
Progress, whether driven by technology or people, is rarely perfect the first time. What matters is the willingness to review, adapt, and improve.
We see this as a partnership with both clients and talent. Feedback is welcomed. Learning is continuous. The goal is not perfection, it is progress that genuinely improves outcomes for everyone involved.
A final thought, depending on where you sit
If you are talent, keep this in mind. Technology may shape the process, but people still make the decisions. Take the time to have real conversations, be clear on what you want, and choose partners who invest in understanding you, not just your CV. The right systems should create more space for those conversations, not less.
If you are a client, my advice is similar. Ask how your recruitment partner uses technology, but also ask how they protect the human experience. Efficiency matters, but alignment, judgement, and trust matter more. The best outcomes come when process and people work together.
Keeping pace, staying human
Balancing progress with humanity is not a one-off decision. It is ongoing. Systems will continue to evolve, and so will we. Our role is to stay curious, stay critical, and stay grounded in why we exist in the first place, to help people and organisations make change for the better.
AI is part of that future, so is empathy, judgement, and human connection. The real opportunity lies in holding both at the centre of everything we do.
