At C3Talent, we invested significant time to clearly define our values and ensure they are embraced and accepted by everyone. The exercise was mentally one of the toughest sessions I have ever undertaken. We really challenged ourselves to have succinct values that represent who we are.
Our values are: Conscious Impact, Human, Curious, Relevant, and Live Your Best Life.
We have made them real and relatable, and they underpin every decision we make daily for our clients and Talent, as Agents of Change. We regularly highlight examples of how team members have demonstrated bringing the values alive and actually living them.
Over my extensive career, Corporates have talked more about their values and what they mean. Every company today has a mission statement and values, yet unfortunately, from my experience, only a few actually bring them to life and talk about them daily or weekly. It is like to satisfy potential customers or employees; we have to be able to list them and display them – they are worthless if they aren’t lived!
It is why we made an absolute commitment once we settled on our five values that they would be at the core of every action and decision we make. They drive our behaviour; we use them to help us with decisions and apply them as a filter to assess key strategic decisions surrounding the business. All new recruits into our business are assessed against the values and how we believe they will accept and live by them.
Our positive, cohesive team-based culture stems from our values. By being succinct and consistently reinforcing the importance of them, it has greatly aided in building a bedrock of trust. This allows us to engage in difficult, robust conversations with each other, they have increased employee engagement, and driven us on a path of having a strong, authentic culture that emanates from our values.
IT IS WHY VALUES ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS HOW THEY ARE LIVED AND ACCEPTED BY EACH AND EVERY EMPLOYEE – THEY CAN BE A REAL POINT OF DIFFERENCE FOR YOUR BUSINESS.
