If you are a Qld based hiring manager looking to understand what is happening in the accounting & finance market, here is a snapshot of what the local market is doing right now.
The latest SEEK data released this week mirrors what we are seeing here at C3Talent. Hiring has not stopped, but it has slowed somewhat when compared to last year, job ads are down 0.9 percent, while applications per role are up 0.5 percent.
In summary, the number of job ads for finance and accounting roles are slightly lower and there is a greater numbers of applicants applying for roles.
Demand for the following roles remains strong –
Strategy and planning
Treasury
Systems accounting and IT audit
Management accounting and budgeting
Financial accounting and reporting
Competition for qualified auditors, analysts, cost accountants reporting specialists remains strong, as well as the usual demand for business services, corporate advisory and insolvency specialists. The demand for transactional roles ie AP, AR and payroll are seeking a little less demand.
For talent looking to change roles, this means you need to be more focussed and intentional with your job seeking. Generic CVs and bulk, automated applications are not going to get you a result. Spend time planning your approach, apply for roles that are a good match with your skills and experience, tailor your CV to the role and provide clear, measurable examples of your achievements, the impact you made and the projects and initiatives that you led. Don’t forget to use your networks, your prior, managers, peers and colleagues to make qualified introductions on your behalf, will also become more and more beneficial.
At C3Talent, we work closely with talent and clients alike across Queensland to navigate these shifts with confidence. If you are considering your next move or planning your next hire, a short conversation can make all the difference. Please reach out if we can help at careers@c3talent.com.au or (07) 3707 1353.
